If you do not see your plan listed below, please contact your insurance company to verify if our providers are in your network. Billing Information

When you are scheduled for an endoscopy procedure with our medical professionals, the total cost of your procedure may include up to three different billable services. These services include the physician’s fee, the facility fee, and the pathologist’s fee in the event biopsies are taken. Each service fee will be billed separately to your insurance company through the designated provider.

The physician’s fee refers to the endoscopy procedure, supervising, interpreting, and consulting with your referring physician. The bill for these services will be submitted to your insurance company under your physician’s name.

The facility fee is billed directly by Tucson Gastroenterology Institute. The facility fee includes the costs associated with providing the technicians, nurses, equipment, and supplies included in your endoscopy procedure or treatment.

In the event biopsies are taken during your endoscopy procedure, there will be a pathology fee billed to your insurance company. This fee is billed by the pathologist reviewing your tissue sample. For more information regarding this fee, contact the pathologist directly using the contact information provided on the pathology fee billing statement.

For more information regarding the facility or physician’s fee, you may contact our main office directly. Our courteous team is readily available to help you understand and estimate your financial responsibility prior to your procedure as well as post-procedure should you have any questions or concerns regarding your statement.

Depending on your insurance plan, you may receive no statements or one to two statement bills. One bill is provided by Tucson Gastroenterology Institute, the facility where the procedure took place. The second bill is from Tucson Gastroenterology Specialists, which includes the costs associated with the services you received from your doctor.

Colonoscopy insurance coverage varies depending on your insurance company. Each company has their own coverage plans along with various levels of benefits based on the indication for the colonoscopy. Our professionals provide colonoscopy services and submit specific diagnosis codes to your insurance based on our findings and indications. Your insurance company will then determine the benefits based on the information provided to them. We cannot submit inaccurate codes to facilitate payment or influence higher benefits.

Upon completion of your check-in process, your endoscopy procedure will take between 1 ½ to 2 hours. We ask that the person driving you to and from your appointment remain at the facility in the event that you are finished sooner and discharged early.

During the procedure, patients are given a mild sedative medication that allows them to achieve a light sleep. The effects of the medication may impair the patient’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. As such, we prohibit our patients from driving following their procedure and instead ask that they plan for a loved one to drive them and pick them up. If you do not have someone to drive you, our team can call you a taxi. Furthermore, for your safety, we cannot allow you to walk or take the bus home.

In the event of an emergency, our doctors have privileges exclusively at Tucson Medical Center.

Following your procedure, you may return to eating and drinking as you normally would. However, it’s important to note that the anesthesia given during your procedure may upset your stomach. As such, we recommend that you choose a light meal and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours.

In compliance with Federal Red Flags Ruling, we ask that our patients bring a valid photo identification and their insurance card(s) to each appointment. We adhere to these guidelines in an effort to protect your identity, mitigate the risk of fraud, and to ensure appropriate billing to your insurance.
